Description
This food and culture walking tour begins at the Central Market Hall, one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular indoor markets. Next, we will visit two of Budapest’s most charming neighborhoods.
At the market, you will get a good overview of Hungarian cuisine through a wide range of food items and products, mostly locally grown and seasonally available. You’ll learn about the city’s stunning architecture, the traditions of drinking and eating, and the various ingredients used for the typical Hungarian dishes. While walking through the aisles of the market, you will sample a variety of food and drinks.
Next, we’ll begin our tour around the neighborhoods. After lunch at a traditional butcher, we’ll head to a classic coffeehouse to taste some of the elegant cakes for which Hungarian bakers are famous. Then, after a brief visit to an award-winning chocolatier, it is time to relax over three glasses of outstanding wines paired with delicious local artisan cheese.
A sommelier will introduce you to the Hungarian wine regions, varietals, and styles, then you will taste the spectacular golden-tinted Tokaji aszú wine. This tour will provide insight into the traditional aspect of Hungarian food, as well as the contemporary craft-based producers and specialty shops.
